Thuja occidentalis 'Danica'
Danica Globe Cedar
Danica Globe Cedar is a compact, naturally rounded evergreen shrub with dense, mid-green foliage that takes on a slight bronze tint in winter. It grows slowly to about 60 cm tall and wide, making it well suited to small gardens, borders, and container planting. It is widely adaptable to Ontario conditions and requires little maintenance to hold its globe shape.
Growing Requirements
š USDA Hardiness Zone: 3-8
āļø Light: Full sun to part shade
š§ Water: Water regularly during the first growing season to establish roots; once established, it is moderately drought tolerant but benefits from consistent moisture.
Care Instructions
- Planting: Plant in well-drained soil in full sun to part shade, spacing at least 60 cm from other plants to allow for mature spread.
- Pruning: Light trimming in late spring or early summer can refine the shape, though the naturally globe form rarely requires pruning.
- Fertilizing: Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer formulated for evergreens in early spring.
- Winter: Hardy to zone 3 and generally needs no winter protection, though burlap wrapping can reduce foliage desiccation in exposed or windy sites.
